20 noviembre, 2008 a las 22:19Even as fuel prices slide back down to pre-crunch levels, the automotive industry knows it’s only a temporary respite and continues its gear-up for a new layer of high-quality small cars. On the German front, BMW is thought to be working on a sub-1-series minicar, Daimler already has its Smart, and soon the Volkswagen Group will have its own family of minicars, all based around its recent up! concept vehicle. Last week we reported about a family of minicars for the VW brand, which will be grouped under the Lupo name and serve as a replacement for the econo-hatch in 2011. Now, we have new computer generated renderings of similar models for Seat, Skoda, and Audi.
We’ve reported several times on the Audi minicar, which will also be based around the same platform as VW’s new Lupo, and will do battle with the likes of Ford’s Ka and the Fiat 500. This isn’t the upcoming A1 hatch, which will be a more premium model aimed at cars like the Mini Cooper and previewed recently by the A1 Metroproject concept car.
Positioned below the A1, the tiny Audi minicar will likely feature a 1.2L three-cylinder and FWD configuration.
The Seat and Skoda models will be similar to the Audi minicar but in keeping with the affordable characteristics of their respective brands these two models will likely feature a more Spartan interior with less standard features. Expect several VW Group engines including 1.2L three-cylinder variants and a 1.4L diesel as shared with the current Fabia.
Expect to see the first of these models arrive in early 2011, with the rest of the cars to follow within the same year.

Due to launch after the Up! debuts in 2012, the four-seater is expected to be badged Joyster – taking the name of the original Skoda small car concept from 2006. The urban runabout will rival the likes of the Toyota iQ and Peugeot 107, and will be conventional front-wheel drive after VW ditched the original rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive format.
The switch was partly to allow other VW Group brands such as Skoda and SEAT – as well as new partner Suzuki – to build variants for markets around the world, including the UK. Engine details are still to be confirmed, but the Skoda is likely to get a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2 three-cylinder diesel. Performance will be brisk, yet the focus will be on low emissions – with a sub-80g/km output for the diesel and less than 100g/km for the petrol.
The cheapest Skoda is set to start at just under £7,500. And as with the VW, an all-electric version will follow.

Pues bien, la marca checa Škoda parece que quiere hacer suyo este consejo.
En efecto, la tendencia del mundo del automóvil es sacar al mercado coches más pequeños y ligeros que consuman menos, y que se adapten a las necesidades de movilidad que tenemos hoy en día.
El modelo más pequeño de Škoda estaría basado en el Volkswagen Up!, cuya comercialización está prevista para mediados de 2012, y al parecer heredaría su nombre, Joyster, del concept en el que se basa presentado en 2006.
Por el momento sabemos que se tratará de un urbanita de 4 plazas, tracción delantera y si se confirmaran los datos, sería el Škoda más frugal de todos los tiempos. Se habla en esta línea de un posible motor gasolina tricilíndrico de 1000 cc (menos de 100 gramos de CO₂ cada 100 Km.) y de un diesel también tricilíndrico de 1.200 cc que estaría por debajo de los 80 gramos de CO₂ cada 100 kilómetros.
A estas motorizaciones, al igual que en el caso del Volkswagen Up!, es muy posible que finalmente se uniese una versión eléctrica. Por último hay que decir que se espera que el precio parta de los 9.000 euros, aunque seguramente las versiones con los motores más potentes, y la eléctrica, superen los 10.000 euros.
