Munich.The new BMW X5 is due to arrive in the showrooms on 16 November 2013. The launch of this third generation of the most successful Sports Activity Vehicle in the world will also introduce the BMW M50d M Performance Automobile. Boasting the world’s most powerful six-in-line diesel engine, suspension technology with hallmark M precision-tuning and aerodynamically honed exterior features, the BMW X5 M50d combines superior dynamics on the road with unimpeachable traction off the beaten track. The other character facets of the new BMW X5, moreover, can be explicitly highlighted: model-specific options offered by BMW Individual provide exclusive elegant touches, while new products in the Original BMW Accessories range – likewise specifically designed for the Sports Activity Vehicle – serve to underline its versatility and practicality.
BMW X5 M50d: enthralling dynamics thanks to trademark M precision.
A compelling combination of sportiness, exclusivity and everyday utility distinguishes the new BMW X5 M50d. Its six-cylinder in-line diesel engine boasts detailed refinements and comes with three-stage turbocharging and common rail direct injection. From a 3.0-litre displacement it develops output of 280 kW /381 hp and a peak torque of 740 Newton metres (546 lb-ft). BMW BluePerformance technology as standard means the M Performance Automobile is also EU6-compliant. The diesel unit’s power is transferred to the road by an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.The new BMW X5 M50d comes as standard with Adaptive M suspension including Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension at the rear axle, as well as Electric Power Steering. The optional Dynamic adaptive suspension package comprises Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation, while the exterior features standard 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design fitted with mixed tyres. Noticeably enhanced agility and a quicker time of 5.3 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint go hand in hand with fuel economy improved by more than ten per cent compared with the predecessor model. Average fuel consumption for the new BMW X5 M50d is 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (42.2 mpg) in the EU test cycle, with CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

Hot on the heels of its market launch, the addition of another three engines and four new model variants to the new BMW X5 line-up is set to extend the Sports Activity Vehicle’s efficiency lead over its rivals. The third-generation X5 will be available for the first time from December 2013 with a BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and rear-wheel drive. The engine powering the new BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d uses two turbochargers and common rail direct injection to produce maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp and links up as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The hallmark driving pleasure, eye-catching design, luxurious ambience and outstanding variability of the SAV can therefore be enjoyed at the same time as impressively low fuel consumption and emissions. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 sDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 149 – 151 g/km) and 5.8 – 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres (48.7 –47.9 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 xDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 154 – 156 g/km,
figures depending on the tyre format selected).Also new to the line-up are the BMW X5 xDrive35i with its 225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and the BMW X5 xDrive40d, whose straight-six diesel unit develops 230 kW/313 hp. The new additions take their places alongside the existing BMW X5 xDrive30d, whose six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produces 190 kW/258 hp, the V8 petrol BMW X5 xDrive50i (330 kW/450 hp) and a BMW M Performance Automobile – the BMW X5 M50d (280 kW/381 hp).

Its powerful appearance can be further highlighted by means of a black decorative grid for the BMW kidney grille, a front splitter and exterior mirror caps in carbon, air ducting elements, a diffuser insert for the rear apron and side sill foils with M Performance inscription. For individual flair with a sporty touch in the cockpit, there is the BMW M Performance sports steering wheel with red central marking, gear lever with carbon surface, accelerator, brake pedal and driver footrest in high-grade steel and BMW M Performance floor mats. The product range in the suspension area comprises an BMW M Performance brake system with brake calipers finished in blue and 21-inch BMW M Performance light alloy wheels in Bi-Color finish.The BMW M Performance Power Kit available from spring 2014 for the BMW X5 xDrive35i provides an increase in output which does not affect fuel consumption. A precisely modified engine control system puts peak output up by 15 kW/20 bhp to 240 kW/326 bhp. Maximum torque is likewise raised by 50 Nm to 450 Nm. The spontaneous response of the engine can now be felt even more intensely due to an optimised accelerator pedal set-up. This optimised performance is noticeable both when accelerating from standing and in terms of elasticity, and when the driving experience switch is set to SPORT mode it is accompanied by a striking engine sound Another option available for the BMW X5 xDrive35i is a BMW M Performance silencer system. All variants of the new BMW X5 can be fitted with M Performance tailpipe trim elements in chrome or carbon.
