Land Rover Launches It’s First Hybrid Range Rover Models

              – World’s first premium diesel SUV hybrids introduced by Land Rover
              – Hybrid powertrain for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models
              – Outstanding performance with 340PS and class-leading 700Nm torque
              – 26 percent lower CO2 emissions (169g/km) and 44.1mpg (combined)
              – Uncompromised cabin comfort and load space, with enhanced refinement
              – Hybrid capability to be demonstrated on 16,000km Silk Trail expedition to India
              – On sale from September 10, with first deliveries in early 2014

Land Rover is launching its first-ever hybrid models – the Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid – which will deliver outstanding fuel economy, significantly lower CO2 emissions and retain Land Rover’s renowned capability and performance.

Available to order in Europe from September 10 with first deliveries in early 2014, the two all-aluminium models are based on Land Rover’s Premium Lightweight Architecture and share an identical powertrain. They are the world’s first premium diesel SUV hybrids.

“We are extremely excited to introduce the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Hybrids, the world’s first hybrid SUVs with legendary Land Rover capability. The addition of a smooth electric drive enhances refinement, cuts CO2 emissions and delivers staggering performance on a par with our SDV8 engine,” said John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.

To demonstrate the capabilities of the new hybrids, three Range Rover Hybrids will embark tomorrow (Thursday, August 22) on an epic trip, from the home of the Range Rover brand in Solihull to the home of the parent company Tata, in Mumbai, India.

This ‘Silk Trail 2013’ 16,000km expedition visits 12 countries and takes in some of the world’s most challenging roads, passes and trails, including part of the ancient, 4,000 mile Silk Road connecting Asia with the Mediterranean. These are the first hybrids to ever attempt this challenging route.

The new Range Rover Hybrid powertrain features three driver-selectable modes and combines Land Rover’s popular 3-litre SDV6 diesel engine with a 35kW electric motor integrated with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The hybrid system, including lithium ion battery pack, inverter and electric motor weighs less than 120kg.

The electric motor produces 170Nm torque to boost acceleration and drives the vehicle in EV Mode. The motor also acts as a generator, harvesting kinetic energy through regenerative braking, charging the battery when the vehicle is slowing. In driver-selectable EV mode the Range Rover Hybrid can travel at speeds of up to 30mph (48km/h) for a range of up to one mile (1.6km) before the diesel engine seamlessly restarts.

Together, output of the diesel engine and electric motor is 340PS at 4,000rpm and a class-leading 700Nm torque between 1,500-3,000rpm, resulting in stunning SDV8-style performance. Both models accelerate to 62mph (100km/h) in under seven seconds, deliver strong transient and mid-range performance with a top speed of 135mph (218km/h), combined with a 26 percent reduction in CO2 emissions to 169g/km, equivalent to 44.1mpg on the combined cycle.

The latest generation Range Rover models have all been designed with the integration of a hybrid system in mind. Consequently, the liquid cooled, battery pack is mounted beneath the floor of the vehicle in a protective boron-steel cradle without impacting on the cabin or luggage space. The Range Rover Hybrid has the same five-seat capacity and luggage space as the standard vehicle and retains the full-size spare wheel. This no-compromise philosophy is echoed in the Range Rover Sport Hybrid whose interior is unchanged from the standard model, right down to the 5+2 seating.

Both hybrid Range Rover models continue to deliver a class-leading breadth of capability and versatility, enhanced by the exceptionally linear torque delivery from the powertrain and retaining Land Rover’s peerless four-wheel drive system including Terrain Response® 2, with uncompromised wading and ground clearance.

The ‘Silk Trail 2013’ expedition featuring the new Range Rover Hybrids is scheduled to visit France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China and India. The expedition will be broken into 10 separate legs, with the Range Rover Hybrid vehiclesdriven by teams of Land Rover development engineers and invited media – arriving in Mumbai on October 15.

                – Debuts at Dubai motor show
                * First customer deliveries from March 2014*
                * Over 840,000 Range Rover vehicles sold since launch in 1970

Land Rover is extending customer appeal of its family of luxury SUV vehicles with the launch of a new long wheelbase Range Rover and the addition of an exclusive specification – the Range Rover Autobiography Black*.

The first Range Rover long wheelbase in 20 years, this new model will cater for a growing group of consumers looking for the ultimate SUV, and an alternative to the traditional long wheelbase saloon cars in this segment. Clever packaging has increased rear legroom by 140mm for rear seat passengers and boosted recline to 17 degrees with the executive seating package to provide enhanced comfort and space.

The new Range Rover Autobiography Black makes its debut at the Dubai motor show in early November. It represents the pinnacle of desirability to bring even higher levels of refinement to the world’s finest luxury SUV. The interior has been carefully crafted and tailored to meet customer needs with subtle but distinctive exterior detailing and is appointed and finished with the highest quality leathers and materials.

“With the addition of the Range Rover long wheelbase to our portfolio of luxury SUVs, customers can now choose a vehicle that offers superior levels of interior space and comfort to compete in a market dominated by saloon cars up until this point.

“The Range Rover Autobiography Black is our most luxurious specification yet. It epitomises sophisticated design with immaculate attention to detail. The subtle, elegant and luxurious finishing touches combine with a first class experience for both driver and passengers to deliver new levels of exclusivity to our customers,” says Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover.

Both derivatives exude Land Rover’s renowned breadth of capability and performance with first customer deliveries from March 2014*.

                Long wheelbase extends customer appeal

Land Rover is set to extend customer appeal with the reveal of a long wheelbase Range Rover at the LA Auto Show on 20th and Guangzhou on the 21st November.

An additional 140mm to rear legroom has been achieved by lengthening the bodyshell in front of the rear wheels. Clever packaging ensures the signature floating roof and distinctive Range Rover silhouette have been retained to ensure this addition to the family line-up is instantly recognisable.

Available with either bench or individual Executive Class rear seats, the second row executive style seats can recline to 17 degrees, a full eight degrees more than the nine degrees on the standard wheelbase. Passenger Seat Away slides the front seat forward to provide additional space and comfort. For added convenience, the long wheelbase is equipped with powered side door blinds and a panoramic sunroof as standard, as well as increased stowage. Range Rover long wheelbase models will carry a distinctive ‘L’ badge mounted into the exterior accents behind each front wheel arch.

The long wheelbase will be offered on Range Rover Vogue, Vogue SE, Autobiography and Autobiography Black models. A Range Rover Hybrid derivative will also become available later in 2014. Key markets for this derivative will be China and the USA.

This is the first Range Rover long wheelbase since the Range Rover LSE which ran from 1992 to 1994.

New levels of exclusivity with Range Rover Autobiography Black

Land Rover will be unveiling their most exclusive specification vehicle to date at the Dubai International Motor Show on November 5th – the Range Rover Autobiography Black, available in standard and long wheelbase derivatives*.

Based on over 40 years of experience, the new Range Rover Autobiography Black has been designed and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover’s ‘Engineered To Order’ (ETO) division to deliver an unmatched combination of all-terrain performance, luxury and design.

“The Range Rover Autobiography Black is an opportunity to harness the strong emotional connection that Land Rover has with its customers the world over. This exclusive vehicle has been developed by the specialist Engineered to Order team to offer our customers an unrivalled and luxurious driving experience that provides a seamless integration between the needs of business and leisure,” says John Edwards, Managing Director, Individual Products Division.

                Subtle but distinctive exterior detailing

A number of changes to the Autobiography Black exterior give it a distinctive and subtly different character. A unique design finish has been appointed to the front grille and side vents along with distinguishable badging in black enamel and chrome. Signature rear lamps and auxiliary vents to the front add to the exclusivity of this vehicle with a chrome accent finish to the tailgate.

Two new and exclusive Autobiography Black wheel designs accompany the core Range Rover wheel choices. These are 7-spoke 21″ and a 22″ wheels with a high gloss polished finish, the latter of which will be available from Spring 2014.

“The Range Rover Autobiography Black is the latest step in our transformational journey that moves luxury to another level. This vehicle is an intensely design focused response to our customers’ desire for more choice and exclusivity,” says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer.

“The highest standards of precision detailing, together with the use of the finest crafted materials, have been achieved inside and out. Autobiography Black represents the pinnacle of desirability in the world of luxury inhabited by our Range Rover customers,” McGovern adds.

                First class travel

The Range Rover Autobiography Black incorporates a unique seat cover design with the desirable Executive Class seating package. This package offers the ultimate in rear seat luxury with two individual fully adjustable seats and a re-designed full extended centre console to offer supreme comfort and functionality.

Re-designed exclusively for the Autobiography Black, the rear centre console includes electrically deployable tables covered in black leather with integrated USB charging sockets and cup holders. The chiller compartment provides additional space for glasses and bottles and for long wheelbase customers, increased stowage is available to the rear. The headphone stowage trim can be removed to reveal a ski hatch whilst the entire rear console can be illuminated in harmony with the vehicle’s mood lighting settings.

Sumptuous leather seating is complemented with a massage function and bolsters with 18-way seat adjustability for the driver and front passenger. Seat memory and climate control is available to the front and rear occupants. Rear passengers benefit from the addition of lumbar massage and powered recline whilst the long wheelbase also offers a calf rest for the rear passenger side occupant.

Customer-configurable LED mood lighting allows the owner to set the tone by varying the intensity of the lighting from a range of 10 colours. This feature is concentrated on the door handles and stowage compartments, as well as following the lines of the lavish, veneered surfaces on the centre console. The footwell lighting can also be adjusted to ambient rather than plain white.

Finer details include leather-wrapped parcel shelf, A, B and C-pillar lower sections and a perforated leather finish on the door insert. The seat backs, ski hatch, parcel shelf and upper D-pillar are also leather wrapped. Tread plates are illuminated with ‘Autobiography Black’ script whilst a brushed stainless steel tailgate finisher completes the detailing in the loading bay.

                Exclusive colour combinations

Three exclusive colour combinations are available with the Range Rover Autobiography Black at launch; Ebony/Lunar, Espresso/Tan and Dark Cherry/Ivory, the latter including a unique duo-tone seat. These will be followed by Lunar/Cirrus in Spring 2014, when a unique Poltrona Frau seat design in Navy/Ivory also becomes available, providing further opportunity for customers to tailor the interior to their personal taste.

                * Availability of the Autobiography Black and long wheelbase are market dependent.

Enhanced Performance And Increased Personalisation Options ror 2015 Model Year Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

                    – Range Rover and Range Rover Sport continue to improve the customer experience by offering an extensive selection of in-car technology, including Land Rover InControlTM
                    – Uprated SDV8 with additional 40Nm for effortless overtaking; enhanced eight-speed transmissions on diesel SDV8
                    – Increased personalisation options, including exterior colours, alloy wheels, panoramic roof and interior colourways

Whitley, UK, 15th July. Land Rover is introducing a comprehensive suite of updates to Range Rover and Range Rover Sport for 2015 model year, reaffirming their status as the world’s best luxury and premium sporting SUVs, unrivalled in their breadth of capability, both on- and off-road.

‘As the world’s best luxury and premium sporting SUVs, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have long offered an unrivalled combination of performance, luxury and off-road capability,’ says Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover.‘These latest updates ensure both vehicles maintain their market-leading positions, with a special focus on performance, efficiency and increased personalisation options.’

Clean engines and even greater performance

The potent SDV8 now produces 339PS and 740Nm – a 40Nm increase – with a fuller torque curve from 1700 to 3300rpm thanks to detailed calibration changes. This improves in-gear acceleration by up to 6.5% from fifth to eighth gear, ensuring effortless overtaking ability and enhanced towing capability. The ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox has been re-engineered with a revised torque converter incorporating a twin-spring damper. Despite such a large increase in torque, the SDV8’s fuel economy and CO2 emissions remain unchanged at 32.5mpg and 229g/km CO2.

Distinctive new features and additional convenience for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

Updated puddle lamps now project each vehicle’s silhouette onto the ground at night to light the way for occupants.

Fixed panoramic roofs with power blinds are now available and bring an additional sense of space and light to both vehicles’ luxurious interiors. Meanwhile, for Range Rover, 19-inch alloy wheels with a Satin Dark Grey finish introduce a stylish option for buyers wishing to use smaller wheels where conditions and surfaces may prove more challenging.

Increased personalisation options for Range Rover derivatives

An updated colour palette features Aruba silver and Kaikoura Stone, and long-wheelbase derivatives can be specified with a sophisticated 22-inch alloy wheel for the first time.

Inside, an Intelligent Cargo Mode senses if the rear seats are about to make contact with the front seats when folded down to increase luggage capacity, and automatically moves the front seats forwards. Once the rear seats have folded flat, the front seats are returned as close as possible to their original position.

From August, UK customers will be able to order the Range Rover Autobiography Black Long Wheel Base, an intensely design-focused response to our customers’ desire for more choice and exclusivity. It delivers higher levels of luxury with unique design finishes, precision leather detailing and new features to give this vehicle specification a distinctive and subtly different character both inside and out. Supreme comfort and added functionality are evident with the Executive Class package, which offers two individual fully adjustable seats and a re-designed extended centre console with electrically deployable leather tables, integrated USB charging sockets, enhanced stowage and bespoke lighting.

The Autobiography Black available in long wheelbase only, is available with an exclusive new Lunar/Cirrus interior colour combination. Autobiography Black signature details include unique Santorini Black and Bright Chrome exterior trim, LED tail lamps, unique 21- and 22-inch alloys, new seat designs with Semi-Aniline leather, customer-configurable mood lighting, and additional swathes of leather.

Even more choice for Range Rover Sport customers

The Range Rover Sport’s exterior colour palette has been updated for 2015 to include the distinctive new Aruba silver, and the roof and door sills can now be finished in body colour or contrasting black.

Land Rover InControlTM technologies go even further

Land Rover InControl™ Remote and InControl Secure are now available on Range Rover and Range Rover Sport derivatives as standard.

InControl Remote includes an integrated SOS Emergency Call, Optimised Land Rover Assistance and a Smartphone App which enables you to connect remotely with your vehicle wherever you are. InControl Secure tracks the vehicle should it be stolen.

InControl Apps and InControl Wi-Fi are new Land Rover InControl technologies which debut on Range Rover and Range Rover Sport derivatives.

InControl Apps allows owners to sync smartphone apps to the vehicle’s touchscreen, and is compatible with Apple and Android smartphones.

InControl Wi-Fi provides instant in-car access to a mobile hotspot which allows up to eight devices to be used simultaneously. The system provides superior signal quality compared to an independent smartphone hotspot using the customer’s existing data plan through a duplicate sim card.

The 2015 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are available to order from 16th July.

(MAHWAH, N.J.) – March 29, 2015 – Land Rover will unveil the Range Rover SVAutobiography at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, adding elevated luxury, design sophistication and performance to the flagship model line.

Speaking ahead of the model’s world premiere in New York, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern stated, “With the SVAutobiography we have taken the opportunity to optimize the luxury execution and precision of the Range Rover while delivering beautiful detailing that considerably enhances the customer’s experience of our flagship vehicle.”

Exclusively crafted at the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Technical Center in the UK, SVAutobiography features unique exterior design enhancements, an exclusive premium leather interior with unique trim finishes and a 550hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine. As a result, the SVAutobiography is the most luxurious and powerful series-production Range Rover in the model’s successful 45-year history.

John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said, “Range Rover originally defined the luxury SUV segment and the new SVAutobiography, developed by Special Vehicle Operations, takes Range Rover to another level of comfort, craftsmanship and refinement.”
Replacing the Autobiography Black at the top of the Range Rover line-up, SVAutobiography is available with a powerful 550hp supercharged V8 engine. Shared with the Range Rover Sport SVR, and tuned specifically for the SVAutobiography, this potent engine produces an outstanding 550hp and 502lb. ft. of torque. Despite noticeable increases of 40hp and 41lb. ft. respectively, compared with existing supercharged V8 Range Rover derivatives, efficiency remains unchanged.

The key to the increase in performance of the SVAutobiography is the optimization of the Bosch engine management system and retuning of the Roots-type twin vortex supercharger’s electronic bypass valve, to increase maximum available boost pressure during high-performance driving.
With maximum torque available at 3,500rpm and a smooth and sophisticated ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the SVAutobiography provides a breath-taking blend of performance, in-gear flexibility and refinement. The ZF eight-speed automatic transmission continues to offer seamless gear changes and an adaptive-shift logic that intelligently adjusts to driver behavior. The advanced transmission can also be controlled via the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifts, ensuring the perfect combination of refinement and driver engagement.

A new exhaust system with distinctive quad polished chrome tailpipes ensures optimal flow rates and a subtly enriched engine note for this performance-oriented luxury model.

The 550hp engine has been engineered and optimized for unparalleled comfort and refinement, and features Brembo front brake calipers in gloss black finish.

Customers of the Range Rover SVAutobiography are able to specify a unique Dual-tone body color option. The combination of Santorini Black upper body and nine color choices for the lower body create true distinction and individualism.

The 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography features unique hood lettering and the tailgate is adorned with new SVAutobiography badging. A new front grille is finished in distinctive Graphite Atlas and polished chrome, furthering its visual differentiation.

Much of the vehicle’s controls, including the start-stop surround, rotary gear selector and pedals are machined from solid aluminum with beautiful knurled details. This detailing continues to both the front and rear center consoles, with distinctive materials for the cup holder and socket covers. New armrest adjuster knobs feature a similar level of machined detailing.

Rear-seat passengers relax in luxurious seating complete with a beverage chiller compartment and powered deployable tables. Solid aluminum coat hooks are incorporated into the rear pillars while, on the floor, aluminum seat rail finishers and deep twist pile mohair carpet mats complete the of sumptuous luxury environment.

A polished SVAutobiography key fob with knurled finish adds the finishing touch.

In the rear compartment, the SVAutobiography offers the option of a sliding luggage floor. Made from beautifully crafted aluminum and a choice of wood veneer options, the floor slides rearwards to optimize ease of use for loading and unloading.

2016 Model Year Range Rover line-up

Complementing the introduction of SVAutobiography, a comprehensive suite of revisions will be available for the 2016 Range Rover line-up, underlining its status as the ultimate luxury SUV. Key updates extend to a more powerful V6 engine and turbodiesel options for the HSE model, all-new convenience features including a Gesture Tailgate, Automatic Access Height, improved Surround Camera System and enhanced smartphone connectivity with a revised suite of Land Rover InControlTM technologies.

New for the 2016 Range Rover HSE is a 380hp supercharged V6 engine. Building on the all-aluminum 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine, with its laser-drilled injectors, two-stage oil pump and diamond-like coating for pistons and gudgeon pins, Land Rover engineers have carried out detailed calibration changes to achieve extra power for the 2016 model year. A potent 380hp, increased by 40hp over the previous version is the result.
With maximum torque available at 3500rpm and a broad power band, the new 380hp supercharged V6 provides effortless in-gear acceleration coupled with outstanding levels of refinement.
                      2
A turbodiesel Range Rover HSE will be available in North America for the first time as part of the 2016 model year enhancements. Featuring a single turbocharger, Low Pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation (LPEGR) and a two- stage oil pump to reduce losses, the 3.0-liter Range Rover Td6 engine offers a powerful 254hp and 28mpg highway, providing excellent performance, reduced running costs and an exceptional cruising range of up to 658miles (Highway) for maximum convenience. Peak torque of 440lb. ft. is available at just 1,750rpm to ensure effortless in-gear acceleration and the capability to tow up to 7,716lbs (3500kg) with exceptional flexibility.

A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to reduce NOx emissions, ensuring the Td6 achieves US LEV 3 status. The DEF is injected into the exhaust and, as the resulting mixture passes through the SCR, NOx is turned into harmless nitrogen gas.
In addition to the cleansing efficiency of the SCR, every aspect of the Td6 engine has been optimized to ensure emissions are as low as possible. This includes the new Low Pressure EGR system which has been critical to success of Td6 emission ratings and further improves fuel economy.
All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) makes the world-renowned off-road capability of the Range Rover more accessible. Operational from 1.1mph to 19mph (1.8km/h to 30km/h) in forward and reverse gears, ATPC allows an ultra-low creep speed to be set using the steering wheel-mounted cruise-control interface when stationary or when the vehicle is in motion2. This allows the driver to concentrate purely on steering the vehicle over and around obstacles, while it maintains a constant speed that may otherwise be difficult to achieve over very challenging terrain. By reducing driver distractions and optimizing traction in this way, ATPC enhances off-road capability and safety. ATPC can be overridden by simply pressing the brake or accelerator.

The new Surround Camera System2 provides improved clarity, creating sharper and clearer images on the central touchscreen display. A network of four cameras positioned in both front and rear bumpers and the side mirrors crisply relays the vehicle’s surroundings to the driver for maximum safety and convenience. The reverse camera automatically displays the view behind the vehicle when reverse gear is engaged; when surround view is selected; the images from each camera combine to create an overhead view of the vehicle.

A standard rear-camera wash system operates in conjunction with the rear window wash function to improve visibility in inclement weather.
The standard Hands-Free Gesture Tailgate integrates hands-free functionally to the powered electric tailgate. Vehicle owners will simply have to point a foot under either rear corner of the vehicle to gain access into the luggage area. The proximity sensors are located to the sides of the rear bumper rather than the center, allowing the tailgate to be conveniently operated from the curb. This feature is also fully compatible with a tow bar, so the exceptional 7,716lbs towing capacity of the Range Rover is uncompromised.

For the 2016 model year, the driver-adjustable access height function becomes fully automated. The Automatic Access Height system automatically lowers the vehicle’s air suspension once the transmission is placed in Park (P), for improved entry and exit into the vehicle.

When the ignition is switched off or the driver’s seatbelt is removed, the vehicle automatically lowers by 1.4in (35mm) to aid entry and exit. Should any door handle be activated, the height decreases by an additional 0.6in (15mm) for enhanced convenience. The total time from switching the ignition off or removing the seatbelt to achieving a maximum ride height reduction of 2in (50mm) is three seconds. The vehicle automatically returns to its optimized ride height at a speed of 9mph (15km/h).

The suite of Land Rover InControl® connected-car technologies continues to expand for 2016, with advanced new standard features.
InControl® RemoteTM allows drivers to remotely activate vehicle systems using a smartphone app. Functions include:

                      – Remote Lock/Unlock enables owners to verify the vehicle’s status, and lock or unlock the doors as desired
                      – Remote Alarm Reset sends a smartphone alert if the vehicle alarm is sounding, and provides the option to remotely reset if required
                      – Remote Beep and Flash helps to locate the vehicle in a busy parking lot by flashing its lights and sounding discreet alarm pips
                      – Remote Engine Start allows owners to bring the cabin to a pre-set temperature using the climate control system

InControl® ProtectTM can connect the driver with Roadside Assistance through the simple push of a button or can automatically call emergency services and notify them of the vehicle’s location should the airbags deploy. InControl® RemoteTM & ProtectTM are subscription based services, which are complimentary during the new vehicle warranty period.

InControl® AppsTM allows smartphone users to seamlessly access and control compatible third party apps stored on their device through the vehicle’s touchscreen.

The Range Rover SVAutobiography, along with the updated Range Rover 2016 Model Year line-up, will be on sale Fall, 2015.
