Sporty compact SUV with numerous innovations: the new Mercedes-Benz GLA
- New front and rear design
- LED High Performance headlights, comfort seats in ARTICO/fabric, leather steering wheel and 10.25-inch media display as standard
- New MBUX generation and upgraded Driving Assistance package
- Electrified drivetrains and further developed hybrid powertrain
Mercedes-Benz is significantly upgrading the compact GLA SUV with numerous innovations and more extensive standard equipment. The new radiator grille with vertical louvres and horizontal fin enhances the powerful character. In addition, the bonnet with discreetly suggested power domes underlines the self-confident appearance. The redesigned front bumper with visual underride protection points to the GLA’s off‑road genes.
Added to this is the modernised light signature in the standard LED High Performance front headlights and the LED rear lights. Mercedes-Benz is expanding the range of options with the new Spectral Blue paint colour and four additional wheel designs. In the basic trim, the new GLA stands on 17-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels in high-gloss black with high-gloss turned surfaces. Optional 18- to 20-inch wheels are also available.
The free-standing double screen is one of the highlights of the significantly upgraded interior. It now includes a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch display as standard for the instrument cluster and multimedia screen respectively. Two 10.25-inch wide-screen displays are optionally available. They offer a holistic high-tech experience and enhance the open-plan architecture. The steering wheel of the current generation is upholstered in leather as standard; ARTICO imitation leather is available as an alternative. For the first time, a heated steering wheel rim is also available for the AMG Line.
Simplified offer logic with extensive standard equipment
The new GLA is equipped with comfort seats as standard. They are upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and three-dimensionally embossed fabric in black. They are also optionally available in the trendy sagegrey colour. The Progressive equipment variant offers three interior colours: black, macchiato beige and sagegrey. In the AMG Line, the standard seat cover in ARTICO man-made leather/microfibre MICROCUT is now also available in bahia brown. A total of four upholstery colours are available in the AMG Line: black, bahia brown, sagegrey and the new shade red pepper combined with black. The fabric covering of the comfort seat is made of 100% recycled materials. In the case of the ARTICO/MICROCUT seat cover, this proportion is 65% in the seat mirror and 85% in the bottom fabric.
Mercedes-Benz has significantly upgraded the standard equipment of the GLA and tailored the offer logic even more precisely to specific customer wishes. For example, in addition to the leather steering wheel and LED front headlights, the basic equipment already includes Highbeam Assist, a backup camera and the USB package. From the Progressive equipment variant onwards, customers also receive the Parking Package and the Mirror Package. Further functional equipment is bundled into packages based on real customer behaviour. In terms of design features such as colours, upholstery, trim and wheels, those interested can configure the vehicles individually.
Latest MBUX generation with intuitive operation and adaptive software
The GLA now also features the latest generation of MBUX – with newly designed display styles: while “Classic” provides all relevant driver information, “Sporty” impresses with the dynamic rev counter. “Discreet” reduces the displays to the essential content. In combination with the three Navigation, Assistance and Services modes plus the 10 colour worlds of Ambient Light, there are numerous individualisation options. All previous functions such as Media, Phone, Vehicle etc. are still available. They can be conveniently operated via the touchscreen or the finger pads on the steering wheel.
The revision of the telematics system focused on a new design and improved performance. A new feature is the ability to connect wirelessly with smartphones via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto Wireless. For further connectivity, the GLA now has an additional USB-C port and increased USB charging power. All USB ports are now illuminated.
By activating online services in the Mercedes me app[1], the intelligent voice assistant becomes even more capable of dialogue and learning. The system gets to know the driver and remembers their typical settings or routes. At the appropriate moment, it suggests personalised infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions – precisely tailored to the respective driving situation. The driver can, of course, reject this suggestion with the “Do not suggest now” function, or permanently delete it with “Do not suggest again”. The vehicle will remember these wishes. Certain actions can be triggered even without saying “Hey Mercedes”. In addition, the voice assistant can explain vehicle functions. The audio “Tourguide” adds an exciting feature to the travel information as part of the “MBUX Voice Assistant” from Mercedes me – initially exclusively in Germany. When the “Hey Mercedes, start Tourguide” voice command is given, MBUX reads out interesting facts about places of interest along the route. The system responds to the approximately 3,400 brown signs along German motorways.
The optional Burmester® surround sound system, in conjunction with the latest MBUX generation, now features the immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience, which gives music more space, clarity and depth. In addition, Dolby Atmos adapts to any playback environment, meaning fans can listen to music with unparalleled clarity that matches the artist’s original vision from the studio.
Digital extra: new mini-games
With the optional individualisation package[2] for Mercedes me connect services, a new digital extra is also making its way into the GLA. A selection of mini-games specially developed for the touchscreens and the touch control buttons on the steering wheel turn the compact SUV into a mobile games console: those who have a charging stop or want to pass time waiting can play alone or compete with fellow passengers. Currently, classic games such as Sudoku, Shuffle Puck, Pairs, Match 3 and a quiz are available.
The new GLA models also step up in terms of safety assistance. An upgrade of the Driving Assistance package enables more comfortable control of the Lane Keeping Assist through the Active Steering Control. The next generation of the Parking package also supports longitudinal parking. And it offers 360-degree visualisation for camera-assisted parking. The Trailer Manoeuvring Assist is also available for the GLA for the first time. It facilitates reverse manoeuvring with camera support. The prerequisite is the trailer hitch with ESP® trailer stabilisation in conjunction with the Parking Package with 360-degree camera.
Expanded range of electrified drive options
To further reduce consumption and emissions, the petrol engines in the new GLA are electrified throughout. The range includes four-cylinder units with seven- or eight-speed DCT dual-clutch transmissions as standard equipment. The mild hybrids are equipped with an additional 48-volt on-board power supply for the belt-driven starter-generator. Its briefly available additional power of 10 kW supports agility when starting or is used for quick boosting. The starter-generator also increases comfort: in addition to low-vibration and low-noise engine starting, it also enables coasting with the combustion engine switched off. In addition, it recuperates during braking and acceleration processes – and thus supplies the 12-volt on-board network as well as the 48-volt battery with electrical energy.
More power and range for the plug-in hybrid
The further developed plug-in hybrid drive of the GLA 250 e (preliminary figures: fuel consumption combined, weighted: 1.4-1.1 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined, weighted: 31-24 g/km; electricity consumption combined, weighted: 23.8-21.1 kWh/100 km)[3] scores above all with increased performance. The higher usable energy content of the improved high-voltage battery also leads to a longer electric range. The output of the electric motor has increased by 5 kW to 80 kW while the system power remains the same. On the charging side, three options are still available: in addition to the 3.7 kW standard, the battery can now optionally be charged with alternating current and up to 11 kW. Furthermore, it is possible to charge the battery with direct current and up to 22 kW. This further reduces charging times. Mercedes-Benz has also updated the visualisation of the hybrid functions in the head unit.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine combines smooth running and superior power delivery with contemporary efficiency. It is available in three power and torque levels. Its features include single-stage turbocharging with variable turbine geometry. The cylinder head and crankcase are made of lightweight aluminium. The NANOSLIDE® coating developed by Mercedes-Benz reduces friction between the cylinder wall and the steel piston. This reduces consumption and emissions.

More features and improved technology for Mercedes-AMG GLA and GLB
- New front apron design
- New signature for headlights (LED and MULTIBEAM LED) and LED rear lights
- Belt-driven starter generator and 48 volt on-board power supply
- AMG Performance steering wheel as standard
With many innovations and an expanded range of standard features, Mercedes-AMG compact SUVs are embarking on the next model cycle. The newly styled front apron with AMG logo and the light signatures at the front and rear make a strong visual statement. LED technology is now the standard lighting package, with MULTIBEAM LED headlights optionally available. Standout features of the model updates: The GLA wheel arch extensions are now painted in the same colour as the vehicle.
AMG engine electrified with hybrid functions
On the engine side, the GLA 35 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption: 9.2-8.8 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 209-200 g/km)[1] and GLB 35 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption: 9.4-8.9 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 214-203 g/km)1 will now be fitted with the belt-driven starter generator (RSG) and an additional 48 volt on-board power supply as standard. The second-generation RSG functions as a mild hybrid. In addition to the temporary power boost of 10 kW (14 PS), it permits such functions as coasting and recuperation for greater efficiency. The 48 volt technology also improves comfort, with the transitions of the start/stop and coasting function barely noticeable. The 225 kW (306hp) output of the agile, high-torque 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine is distributed to all four wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G transmission and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The sporty driving performance is combined with a wide range of driving experience modes, from highly dynamic to smooth touring.
Enhanced interior with the latest MBUX generation
The latest generation of the AMG Performance steering wheel is standard. The AMG steering wheel buttons impress drivers with bright displays and the intuitive control logic. Drivers can access important functions and all driving programs without taking their hands off the wheel.
The MBUX infotainment system is also state-of-the-art, with an AMG-specific screen design and expanded functions. Mini-games will help to fill in the waiting time when parking. Apple Car Play and Android Auto can be connected wirelessly to the vehicle. Connectivity is improved with higher USB charging performance and an additional USB-C port.
The models are also provided with several driver assistance systems such as the Active Lane Keeping Assist that improves comfort by intervening with a gentle nudge instead of activating the ESP® system. The next generation of the Parking Package supports parallel parking and offers 360° visualisation in camera-assisted parking using 3D images.
New options for all models
New light-alloy wheels are available for all Mercedes AMG GLA and GLB models: in the 19-inch range, a 10‑spoke AMG wheel in bicolour matt black with turned surface finish. Two 20-inch AMG wheels in a 5 double spoke design are also available in bicolour matt black with turned surface or wheel flange.
New protective covers for the standard sports seats or the AMG performance seats optionally available for the GLA give the SUV interior a contemporary feel. The combination of ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre can now also be ordered in bahia brown. The latest colour for ARTICO man-made leather is sage grey / black. Red pepper/black is now available for the leather seat covers for the first time. In the trim elements, the options now include open-pore brown lime wood.

The updated EQA and EQB: the short version
- Fresh design: black panel surface now with star pattern; new steering wheel; new trim parts
- Upgraded technology: Plug & Charge; new MBUX generation; updated driving assistance systems
- High-tech special features: Sound Experiences; Dolby Atmos®
With their striking SUV bodies, powerful electric drive and predictive navigation with Electric Intelligence, the two all-electric members of the Mercedes-Benz compact car family have gained many fans. Now the EQA and EQB are becoming even more attractive to newcomers and those switching to electric vehicles – thanks to fresh looks, numerous efficiency updates and new, useful features. MBUX with improved voice control and driving assistance systems are updated; with Plug & Charge charging technology and optional Sound Experiences, innovations from the larger model siblings are making their way into the compact class. For the first time, a trailer hitch[1] is available as an optional extra for the EQB with five seats.
The updated versions of the EQA and EQB can be ordered starting in the fall of 2023 and will arrive at European dealers right at the beginning of 2024.
Updated exterior and interior design
With a newly designed black panel surface with its star pattern[2] at the front, the EQA and EQB visually catch up with their larger model siblings. A light band connects the daytime running lights of the headlights while a new bumper emphasises the broad effect of the vehicle front. The designers have also changed the insides of the taillights. The innovations in the interior include the current-generation steering wheel with touch control panels as well as the trim in brown lime open-pore wood[3], Mercedes-Benz pattern[4] and backlit Mercedes‑Benz pattern[5].
Longer range through technical optimisation
With extensive detail, the engineers at Mercedes-Benz have been able to increase the ranges of the EQA to up to 560 kilometres[6] according to WLTP. The measures include aerodynamic optimisation and highly rolling-resistance-optimised tyres. The new range-maximisation function is helpful in everyday use: energy consumers such as the display or air conditioning can be switched off or their functionality limited in favour of more range.
Trailer hitch1 as special equipment for the EQB
For the EQB with five seats, a trailer hitch including ESP® trailer stabilisation is available as an option for the first time. The maximum braked towing capacity is 1,400 or 1,700 kg (disclosures for front-wheel drive/4MATIC version).
Easier and more convenient charging with Plug & Charge
With the Mercedes me Charge[7] Plug & Charge function, the latest EQA and EQB models can be charged even more conveniently at Plug & Charge-enabled public charging points: when the charging cable is plugged in, the charging process starts automatically; customers do not need to additionally authenticate themselves. The vehicle and charging station communicate directly via the charging cable.
Up to four Sound Experiences
Different sound worlds that allow individual acoustic setups are familiar from the larger all-electric models from Mercedes-Benz. Now these Sound Experiences are also available for the EQA and EQB in conjunction with the optional Burmester® surround sound system. In addition to “Silver Waves” and “Vivid Flux,” two further sound worlds can be unlocked online as part of the Individualisation Package (optional equipment).
Central display as standard
EQA and EQB feature an updated generation of MBUX. The appearance of the displays can be customised with three display styles (subtle/sporty/classic) and three modes (navigation/assistance/service). As part of the slightly changed offer logic, the central display is now part of the standard equipment. The presentation of the charging features within MBUX has also been improved. By activating online services in the Mercedes me app [8], the intelligent voice assistant becomes even more capable of dialogue and learning.
Dolby Atmos® optionally available for an immersive audio experience
The optional Burmester® surround sound system, in conjunction with the newer MBUX generation, features the immersive Dolby Atmos® audio experience. This gives music more space, clarity and depth. In addition, Dolby Atmos® adapts to the playback environment so listeners can hear music almost as clearly as the original vision of the artists in the studio.
Driving assistance systems with improved sensor technology
Improved sensor technology includes a new mono-multipurpose camera and a new backup camera. The optional Driving Assistance package contains improved functions in detail. For example, Active Lane Keeping Assist now works more comfortably with steering intervention instead of ESP.
Net-carbon-neutral production
Since 2022, production at all of Mercedes-Benz’s own passenger car and van plants worldwide has been net carbon neutral. This includes the plants in Rastatt (Germany) and Kecskemét (Hungary) responsible for the production of the EQA and EQB, as well as the battery plants in Kamenz (Saxony) (Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Accumotive) and in Jawor (Poland). Mercedes-Benz has also made the net-carbon-neutral production of battery cells a key requirement for battery cell partners. This enables the production emissions of a cell to be reduced by around 30%. A further reduction of carbon footprint is targeted through emissions reduction in the cathode material and the use of renewable energies in the production and refinement of raw materials.
