HONDA TOMO, «fun driving» by IED
In Geneva the Istituto Europeo di Design presents the latest concept car made by the students of the Master in Transportation Design together with the Honda Design Centre
Turin, 24th January 2019 – Tomo is the 15th style model in 1:1 scale made by the Istituto Europeo di Design as a thesis project for the two-year Master in Transportation Design at IED Turin a.y. 2017/2018. The concept car developed in partnership with Honda will be unveiled at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show to be held on 7-17 March.
TOMO (length 3997 mm – width 1893 mm – height 1556 mm – wheelbase 2690 mm) is a vehicle equipped with electric propulsion representing the convergence of a smart device and a mobility tool designed for 2025. Months of design work implementing the methods and timing of the great style centres allowed the 13 students of the IED Master programme to design a vehicle that was the expression of the brief provided by the Japanese manufacturer: Honda next 2025 “fun” driving. The result of how young designers today see driving pleasure, Tomo is able to combine the needs of leisure time outside the city with business demands of the city. It is no coincidence that the word Tomo, which in Japanese means “friend”, conveys the image of a vehicle that is a faithful companion of its users and that adapts to their wishes and needs, accompanying them in everyday life, inside and outside the city.
Tomo is born by a comic storyboard designed by the students of the Master in Transportation Design IED Turin a.y. 2017/2018. Honda chose as the main concept idea exterior the one of Ricardo Alejandro Campos Ortega (Mexico) and as the main concept idea interior the one of Rudraksh Banerjie (India), both developed together with: Tanmay Madhukar Chavan (India), Michele Corneliani (Italy), Shobhanjit Das (India), Alexander Marcel Fröse (Germany), Xiaole Ge (China), Ramon Emmanuel Hernandez Cortes (Mexico), Tianchen Huang (China), Sameer Aminullah Khan (India), Saketh Nalla (India), Jay Shrikant Nibandhe (India), Yu-Jie Wang (Taiwan).
The Master in Transportation Design IED Turin is coordinated by Alessandro Cipolli with the collaboration of Davide Tealdi, IED instructor, and under the supervision of Luca Borgogno, Design Director Automobili Pininfarina.
Tomo was built by EDAG Italia
Technical sponsors: AM Costruzione Modelli, Clinic Car Italia, Freeland.car Srl, OZ Racing, Pirelli.
Istituto Europeo di Design thanks Honda for the fruitful partnership conducted with passion, enthusiasm and a constant presence.

Nota de prensa, en inglés LEXUS ANNOUNCES TWO EUROPEAN PREMIERES FOR THE 2019 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW
– European debut of the Lexus LC Convertible Concept, a design vision for an open-top version of the flagship LC coupe
– European debut of the new Lexus RC F Track Edition, a competition-inspired version of the high-performance RC F coupe
– The digital press conference on-demand is available any time during the press days
Lexus will present the European premiere of two new models at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. One that represents its exciting future design thinking and the other – its growing track record in international motorsport.
The new Lexus LC Convertible Concept is a powerful expression of Lexus’ creative ambition, a vision of how an open-top version of the award-winning LC flagship coupe might look. Unveiled to wide acclaim at the North American International Auto Show in January, this concept model suggests an exciting new dimension of the LC, amplifying the brave design that has made the coupe a halo model for the Lexus brand.
The RC F Track Edition takes the dynamic performance of Lexus’ coupe to a higher level, with upgrades that have been developed with input from teams racing with Lexus in international GT competitions. This includes the IMSA series in North America, European Blancpain series and Japan’s Super GT championship. True to the performance ethos of Lexus’ F-series vehicles, the RC F Track Edition benefits from new carbon fibre elements that both save weight and improve aerodynamic performance and downforce. Powered by Lexus’ normally aspirated V8 engine, the RC F Track Edition also features ceramic brake discs, titanium tailpipes and a red leather interior that gives added visual emphasis to its performance character.
The Lexus booth is located in Hall 4, stand 4211. The digital press conference presentation will be available on-demand at any time during the show’s press days (5 and 6 March). Media representatives can call at the Lexus booth at a time that suits them and discover the Lexus brand and product messages on an individual screen.

Car of the Year Election at the Geneva International Motor Show
Traditionally the final voting and awarding of Car of the Year prize are held at the Geneva International Motor Show, just before the Press Days. The 8th awarding of this honour at Palexpo will be conducted by the President of the Jury, the journalist from the German automobile magazine Stern, Frank Janssen. The ceremony will be reserved for accredited journalists, but can be followed by the general public live at the websites of the Geneva International Motor Show and of Car of the Year on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
The Car of the Year trophy is highly prized by automobile manufacturers. Established in 1964, it is the most prestigious award of its kind in Europe.
After the initial selection of candidates (60 models), and the first week of road tests (the « Tannistest » from Denmark in October 2018) then followed by numerous individual tests, the jury convened two weeks ago at the « Centre d’Essais et de Recherche Automobile » at Mortefontaine CERAM, near to Paris, for the last cycle of tests on the circuit and on public roads. The finalist manufacturers came together to explain the concept, the highlights and the advantages of the models they have proposed for the award. The cars that are still in the running are very different in terms of market segments and positioning, which makes the final result impossible to predict. The finalists are:
· Alpine A110
· Citroën C5 Aircross
· Ford Focus
· Jaguar I-Pace
· Kia Ceed
· Mercedes-Benz A-class
· Peugeot 508
The President of the Jury, Frank Janssen, will be subject to the ultimate scrutiny as the members of the jury will allocate their 25 points to 5 of the 7 finalists, and the Master of Ceremonies will announce the final decision and award the prize to the winner at Palexpo on: Monday, March 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in Hall C of the Congress Centre at Palexpo. This event is reserved for accredited media representatives for the Geneva International Motor Show plus representatives of the exhibitors at the Show. It will be televised live and direct to the websites of the Geneva International Motor Show and of Car of the Year, plus on Facebook at #GimsSwiss, which will allow the general public to follow the proceedings and to learn who the winner is at the same time it is officially announced.
Car of the Year is organised by the seven top magazines in Europe: Auto in Italy, Autocar in Great Britain, Autopista in Spain, Autovisie in the Netherlands, L’automobile Magazine in France, Stern in Germany, and Vi Blägare in Sweden. The jury consists of the 60 best journalists coming from 23 countries all over the world who convene in Europe to elect the winner.
