A lot has been written about Maserati’s future plans, but exact production details up to 2014 have been revealed just now. As you will read in detail below, the new Quattroporte will be a significant success factor to the Modenese brand. The new E-segment however will be highly critical one. The plans for a new mid-engined sports car, confirmed later by CEO Wester, are not featured in the overview. For that we have to wait until 2015.
Total investments are worth approximately 1 billion euro and production will take place in several factories: Modena, Turin (Grugliasco) and in the USA. It should ensure production figures will rise to around 50,000 units annually, just as Maserati has planned. By contrast, today that is only 6,000 Maserati’s. Next year the Quattroporte is the first Maserati to be launched. Maserati counts on a sales increase of 50% compared to present figures: that will be 9,000 units. The Quattroporte that will be build in Grugliasco should weigh 150 kg less, and will be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A new powerfull 6 cylinder Biturbo with 450 hp will consume 25 to 30% less fuel. A +500 hp 8 cylinder engine will also be available. It is also believed a diesel engine could make its way to the Quatroporte(!). That would be the first time ever in Maserati history. The GranTurismo, build in Modena, will also get an update by the end of next year. Maserati has no intentions of selling more exclusive GranTurismo’s in the future, than they do now.
The new E-segment model Maserati, often called ‘baby Quattroporte’ or ‘Maseratina’ appears on stage early 2014 and will be a large sedan powered by above mentioned engines. It will play a key role in Maserati’s future plans. Between 25,000 and 30,000 units will be produced. In July 2014 production of the SUV will also start. It will be accompanied by the latest V6 and V8 engines and prices will start below a competitive 100,000 euro. http://www.automoblog.net/2010/04/30/new-entry-level-model-maserati-targeting-bmw-5-series/
