Mercedes-Maybach launches its first plug-in hybrid model
The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e (preliminary values, fuel consumption combined, weighted: 1.0‑0.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined, weighted: 23‑18 g/km, electricity consumption combined, weighted: 25.0‑22.9 kWh/100 km)1 marks the beginning of a new era for the brand with a more than 100‑year heritage.
With an electric range of up to 100 kilometres (WLTP)1 depending on the vehicle’s configuration and an electric-drive output of 110 kW/150 hp the luxury saloon can travel locally CO2 emission-free, both in the city and on interurban journeys.
The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e is initially available in China, followed by Thailand, Europe and other countries.
The Mercedes‑Maybach brand has been regarded as the benchmark for automotive luxury, style and status since Wilhelm and Karl Maybach began building automobiles in 1921. Their aim was to create “the very best of the very best,” an aspiration that continues to characterise the unique aura of Mercedes‑Maybach to this day. The legendary brand is continually reinventing itself to exceed the highest expectations of the extraordinary. With success: the current Mercedes‑Maybach S‑Class has seen steadily growing demand since its market launch in 2021.
“With our first plug-in hybrid model, we are combining the luxury experience typical of Maybach with emission-free local driving when in electric driving mode. The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e represents a pivotal step in the transformation of our heritage brand into an electric future. We will present our first fully electric model as early as 2023.”
Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes‑Maybach at Mercedes‑Benz Group AG
The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e opens up an even more impressive experience of silence. In purely electric driving mode, the already exceptionally quiet interior becomes even quieter. The saloon glides along almost silently and with zero local emissions. Electric-specific features are discreetly integrated with typical Maybach expertise – such as the concealed charging socket on the left side of the vehicle and blue colour accents in the headlights or the battery charging state in the instrument panel.
The basis of the hybrid drive is a highly efficient inline six-cylinder engine from the current Mercedes‑Benz petrol engine generation, combining 270 kW/367 hp of powerful performance with low fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. A combined system output of 375 kW/510 hp and maximum torque of 750 Nm guarantees superior driving performance. The electric motor’s maximum torque of 440 Nm is available immediately from the first engine revolution, resulting in rapid acceleration and dynamic handling. The Mercedes‑Maybach S 580 e accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
An 11 kW charger is fitted as standard for three-phase charging from the AC mains. A 60 kW DC charger for fast charging with direct current is available as an option. Even when the battery is almost completely empty, a full charge can be achieved in around 30 minutes using the latter.

The new Mercedes AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE (combined fuel consumption, weighted: 4.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions, weighted: 100 g/km, combined electrical power consumption, weighted: 21.4 kWh/100 km)[2] defines the benchmark in the luxury sedan segment: It combines best-in-class performance with outstanding comfort and virtually noise-free electric driving. The E PERFORMANCE model combines the AMG 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine with the AMG-specific hybrid drivetrain and a new stage in the development of the AMG high-performance battery (HPB). This increases the all-electric range to 33 km.
With system power of 590 kW (802 PS) and 1430 Nm system torque, this full-sized luxury sedan has engine power to spare. Underscoring the superior performance is the acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and the optional top speed of 290 km/h. With standard features such as AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL roll stabilization and active rear-axle steering ensure that the S 63 confidently combines a dynamic driving experience with the utmost in comfort.
At a gross list price of EUR 208,392.801, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE is now available to order in Germany. Standard equipment includes 20-inch light-alloy 10-spoke wheels, DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function and the driver assistance package with many active assistance systems including PRE‑SAFE® PLUS and PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side. Carefully selected and meticulously worked materials lend the AMG Edition 1 a sense of exquisite craftsmanship. The AMG Exclusive package with AMG seats in black nappa leather with red seams and the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather / MICROCUT microfibre with red topstitching combines sportiness with touring comfort. The black/red colour scheme is seamlessly continued through AMG ornamental elements in black visible carbon with red accent stitching. Factory 56 is adding the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE to its production portfolio.
The Mercedes‑AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE will roll off the assembly line in Factory 56 in Sindelfingen. Now Factory 56, which opened in 2020, will manufacture its second AMG model along with the Mercedes‑AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ (WLTP: combined power consumption: 24.3-21.8 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/100 km)[3]. New models and drive variants are quickly integrated into the running line ‑ proof of the high flexibility and efficiency of Factory 56.
In addition to the new Mercedes‑AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE, all variants of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, including the hybrid, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and the fully electric EQS, come off the production line at Factory 56. The Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant has been in operation since 1915. In the more than 100 years since it was established, it has become the competence centre for the production of high-end and luxury-class vehicles in the global production network. The site employs approximately 35,000 people and combines all areas related to vehicle production, as well as planning, central purchasing and supplier management. Sindelfingen is also home to Group Research, Development and Design of Mercedes‑Benz Group AG.
Sustainability in production
Since 2022, the production of vehicles and batteries at all of Mercedes-Benz’s own plants worldwide has been net carbon-neutral. Electricity is purchased exclusively from renewable sources. In addition, the company aims to increase the generation of renewable energy at its locations. Factory 56 in Sindelfingen is committed to sustainable and resource-saving production: a photovoltaic system on the roof supplies the production hall with self-generated green electricity. Over 12,000 modules generate around 5,000 kWp of power. This can cover around 30% of the factory’s annual electricity needs. By the end of 2024, further investments will be made in photovoltaic systems at the site. The Sindelfingen site is also focusing on a steady reduction in water consumption and waste.
