The model in question is a new coupe variant based on 2007’s stunning Gran Turismo Coupe (GTC) concept and if built it leaves the gateway open for the possible launch of a two-door version of the U.S. market Buick Regal.
You see, the Buick Regal is essentially a rebadged Opel Insignia, which means other Insignia variants could possibly make it to the U.S. as well. Earlier this year Buick’s director of design, John Cafaro, suggested that there was definitely a spot in Buick’s lineup for a coupe and a Regal-based two-door could very well be the car we see fill it.
The Insignia coupe isn’t expected in Europe until 2013, however, meaning it would wait at least that long before coming to America. One thing that could bode well for its arrival on our shores is that Opel would need to sell 30,000 units each year to make a business case for the car. That would be tough to achieve in Europe alone, but exporting them to the U.S. could bolster their numbers significantly.
This computer generated rendering of a possible Opel Insignia coupe gives us a good indication as to what the new model will likely look like, suggesting the dramatic styling of the original GTC concept will be toned down significantly.
Powertrain options should mirror that of the Insignia/Regal, which means that a high-performance all-wheel drive GS version complete with a 255 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine matched to a six-speed manual could be launched. Just what the doctor ordered to liven up Buick’s image.

The Vauxhall Calibra is back! Hot on the heels of our news that Ford is resurrecting the Capri as a Focus-based coupé comes confirmation that Vauxhall will create a successor to its popular Nineties two-door.
“I believe we should have one, so we will have one,” GM Europe chief Nick Reilly told Auto Express. As overall boss of Vauxhall and Opel, Reilly has the last word on what goes into production.
He pointed to the GTC (Gran Turismo Concept) coupé unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007 as the inspiration, saying: “It will be exactly this type of car.” That concept went on to become the Insignia, which is likely to form the basis for the new sports machine.
The GTC was powered by a 2.8-litre V6 turbo, and the VXR version of the production car could build on the 320bhp of the hottest Insignia to create a cut-price version of Audi’s S5 coupé.
However, it’s expected that the smaller, mainly turbocharged units will offer a more appealing blend of economy and power, using Vauxhall’s forthcoming range of all-new, direct-injection petrol engines that, according to Reilly, will give economy savings of “at least 10 to 15 per cent”.
The Calibra had a big fanbase, with 250,000 sold around the world before it was axed in 1997. And once again, the top-spec version of the four-seater is likely to come with four-wheel drive.

Autoexpress14 junio, 2011 a las 21:24Ahí esta, con la base del astra cabrio, lo haces coupe y tienes un calibra en un moment, le pones 300cv y pedazo de car. 14 junio, 2011 a las 21:30Tecnicamente muy elemental.
Lo que menos me gusta es lo que insinua con los faros, solo la idea de que el Calibra pase a llevar la estética del Astra me produce escalofríos, y ya no digamos si llevara todo el equipo técnico del mismo, sería una pesadilla.
