Yas Island – Abu Dhabi, November 3rd, 2007 – A Foundation Stone Ceremony was held today in Abu Dhabi to officially signify the start of construction of one of the most multi-dimensional and highly anticipated themed entertainment attractions in the world, the Ferrari Theme Park.
Officials and special guests in attendance for today’s event included Ferrari’s President Luca di Montezemolo and Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman, ALDAR Properties, as well as invited guests representing media, government and business organisations from around the world.
During the Foundation Stone Ceremony a special time capsule was buried, containing a Conrod and Piston of the F2007, the F1 World Champion Ferrari car, together with the first artist’s impression of the Ferrari Theme Park on Yas Island. The capsule will be then opened again at Ferrari’s 100th anniversary, in 2047.
«This is a very special year for Ferrari» – Mr. Montezemolo said. «Together with the extraordinary commercial success of our GT cars, it brought to Maranello the F1 Constructors’ World Championship and the F1 Drivers’ World Championship with Kimi Raikkonen, and I am particularly proud to be present to mark the symbolic start of this great project. Moreover, 2007 is the year of Ferrari’s 60th anniversary, and this Ceremony has therefore a further, important meaning.»
Part of a joint project between Italian automotive manufacturer Ferrari and ALDAR properties PJSC, the 250,000 sqm park (80,000 of them covered) will be a unique oasis of discovery, hospitality and beauty that captures culture, flavour and the true spirit of Italian country, as well as the legendary automotive history, feeling and heritage of Ferrari cars and racing.
«Today is a celebration of the first step along the way to making the world’s first Ferrari theme park a reality, with the laying of the foundation stone,» – commented Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman, ALDAR Properties. «An incredible amount of real estate growth is taking place in Abu Dhabi, and it is our responsibility to deliver projects of the highest quality, while protecting the natural, social and cultural assets of the Emirate. I am confident that the blend between the power and beauty of one of the world’s leading brands, Ferrari with ALDAR’s expertise in development and regional knowledge, will combine to create a destination that resonates with sports lovers around the world.»
When completed in 2009, the attraction will provide amusement for the whole family, featuring multi-format high tech theatres, a variety of sophisticated driving schools (for both children and adults), Ferrari automotive displays and participatory learning centres as well as food and entertainment.
Among the 24 attractions, the Park will offer a mix of high-octane and family rides with roller coasters jetting into the sky and dipping through the covered areas. At the heart of the park will be an advanced and sophisticated circuit offering driving courses, which will be the home of the first Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix in 2009.
After the Foundation Stone event at Yas Island, a brand new Ferrari Store will have its official grand opening in Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall. Ferrari’s President Luca di Montezemolo, Commercial and Brand Director Dany Bahar, Abdullah Abdel Rahim Al Fahim, Chairman of Al Fahim Enterprises and Ahmed Al Sayegh, Chairman of ALDAR Properties will take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has teamed up with Union Properties to build the first ever Formula One World theme park at MotorCity in Dubailand. The developer has signed a deal with Formula One Administration to build the US $360 million project, which will spread over an area of 460 000 m2.
The deal has ignited speculation that Dubai could pose a threat to the Bahrain Grand Prix.
But Martin Whitaker, the general manager of the Bahrain track, has denied that the announcement poses a threat to its long term contract with Ecclestone.
The MotorCity development will include a hotel and advanced conference centres. Construction work is expected to begin in 2006 and will be completed in 2008.
Union Properties chairman Anis Al Jallaf, said: “We are intent on creating the most exciting and imaginative theme park in the world. This is another landmark in the rapidly developing landscape of 21st century Dubai.”
Bernie Ecclestone, CEO, Formula One Administration said: “I’m pleased to be working with Union Properties and have every confidence that they will deliver an outstanding development, which Formula One fans the world over will enjoy.”

Formula One World construction to begin in second quarter next year
By Saifur Rahman, Staff Reporter
Dubai:
Construction of the Dh1.32 billion Formula One World, part of Union Properties’ multi-billion dollar 40 million square foot Dubai MotorCity project, will start during the second quarter of next year, said a senior official.«We are working on the blueprints with architects and designers to finalise the plan,» Simon Azzam, Union Properties chief executive told the media yesterday.
Union Properties last week signed an agreement with Formula One Administration on the project, that is aimed at bringing in international circuits to Dubai and raise the emirate’s profile as a preferred tourism destination.
«We have received good response from the F1 team while making the announcement in China recently,» he said.
Eighty per cent of the facility will be covered and temperature controlled due to excessive heat during the peak summer months. «However, 20 per cent of F1 World will be an open facility,» he said.
Spread over 5 million square feet, Formula One World will include a hotel and advanced conference centre, offering the global corporate community unique and truly original business facilities.
The project is set to be completed in 2008.
Dubai MotorCity will have four components including Dubai Autodrome, Formula One World, Business Park and Residential District.
«We will make an announcement on the development of the Business Park when the plans are in final shape by late 2005, or during the first quarter of 2006,» Azzam said.
The Dubai Autodrome and Business Park is the first fully integrated automotive and motor sports facility in the Middle East region, incorporating a world class FIA sanctioned 5.35 km motor racing track, international standard pit lane complex with a «state-of-the-art» grandstand accommodating over 7,000 spectators and modern hospitality suites for corporate customers.
Azzam refuted claims that the present facility is largely unutilised.
«The track is currently undergoing resurfacing works and will be ready for the GIT race next month. The facility is booked until April 2006.»
Anees Al Jallaf, chairman of Union Properties, said: «Union Properties is intent on creating the most exciting and imaginative theme park in the world.»
Theme park to attract some 1.9m visitors
25 October 2005
DUBAI — The $360 million Formula One World theme park, which is scheduled for completion in 2008, is expected to attract some 1.9 million visitors during the same year, Union Properties (UP), the developers of the project said yesterday.
Earlier this month UP signed an agreement with Formula One administration in Shanghai at the Chinese Grand Prix to build the first-ever Formula One World at MotorCity in Dubailand.
Spread over five million square feet, the new visionary and permanent theme park will offer access to the world‘s most popular annual sporting series and feature state-of-the-art fun and entertainment facilities under one roof. The development will also include a hotel and conference centres.
Simon Azzam, chief executive officer, UP, did not disclose the total cost of the 40 million square feet MotorCity, but said that the rest of the projects within the city, including the business district and residential area will be launched before the year end or early next year.
Both projects will be offered on leasehold. All the projects will be financed both through banks and internally, he said, adding that investment has not been yet finalised for the business district and residential area.
MotorCity, a business park for the motor and the motor-related industries, is part to the Dubai Autodrome development. The construction of the fast track will start next year.
“The concept and business plan are ready. We are waiting for the design,” he said.
Dubai Autodrome is a fully integrated automotive and motor sports facility. It has a FIA sanctioned 5.39 km motor racing track, international standard pit lane complex with a “state-of-the-art” grandstand accommodating over 7,000 spectators as well as providing modern hospitality suites for corporate customers.
Azzam said that the racing track has been recently resurfaced and awaits the FIA approval. The track is fully booked until April next year by some motor companies for testing and launching of vehicles.
“We will have the first international race next month and starting from March, we expect to have a race every month,” he added.

[i]«Ferrari is synonymous with technological innovation. Into India by the end of the year and a 12-cylinder ‘open-top’ in the near future»
Maranello, June 9th 2010 – Yesterday morning, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo, was in London for a series of business meetings and was also interviewed by a team of BBC journalists for several TV and radio programmes broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
One of the main themes covered was Ferrari’s role in the world automotive industry and the outlook for the sector given the fuel consumption and emissions commitments now in place. «Ferrari is synonymous with driving emotion, beautiful design and ongoing technological innovation, characteristics that are shared by all of our models. One of the focuses of our constant drive for technological innovation is emissions reduction,» declared Montezemolo. «So far, we have achieved significant results that will continue to improve as time goes on. In fact, we’ve already unveiled an innovative 12-cylinder hybrid based on our experience with KERS in Formula 1.»
The BBC journalists also commented on Maranello’s consistently growing sales and how output held steady during the year when the world economic crisis was at its most severe. Montezemolo explained this phenomenon by commenting: «We aren’t changing the company strategy of always building fewer cars than the market demands». This strategy ensures Ferrari maintains the brand’s exclusivity. In that regard, the Ferrari President also announced that the brand will launch in India by the end of 2010, further confirmation of the crucial role that the emerging markets are playing for the company which exports more than 90% of its cars.
Montezemolo also painted a picture of Ferrari as very much in tune with the times and market demands, a company both conscious and proud of its tradition but also one looking to the future to ensure that it never stands still.
When questioned on Italy’s economic situation, the Ferrari President reiterated his huge faith in his nation and his fellow Italians’ ability to tackle urgent problems. One journalist pointed out that Montezemolo’s own reputation in Italy is on a par with the prime minister’s and then asked if he would consider running for that particular job, but the Ferrari President merely smiled and said «I really don’t think so».
Later, in the evening, Montezemolo met with the UK’s specialist car sector media, in the run-up to the launch of an exclusive «open-top» version of the 599 of which a very limited number will be built. «This is a very unusual car and it will certainly surprise you. It’s only going to be available to a very select number of clients who’ve been asking us for an open-top version of the 12-cylinder for quite some time now. We won’t be unveiling it at a show though. Instead we’ll be organising private presentations.»
With regard to the adoption of new technologies, including those focused on fuel consumption reduction, the Ferrari chairman confirmed the Prancing Horse’s interest in hybrid cars and stressed that Maranello’s engineers are working on all fronts. When asked for details on V6 or turbo engines, Montezemolo commented that, technologies aside, what will continue to drive emissions and fuel reductions for Ferraris will, as always, be innovation, extreme technology and a constant exchange of information with Formula 1, aimed at maintaining the sportiness and driving pleasure that make Ferraris unique.
With regard to Formula 1, Montezemolo repeated that after a good start this season, the team has some work to do to become more competitive. However, he also added that he has utmost faith in the ability of the Ferrari staff and the response we will see from them in the upcoming races. On the subject of the F1 sector, he confirmed that all parties involved need to work together to ensure that the races are more exciting. He also acknowledged that costs would have to be reduced but not to the detriment of the sport or technology.
